Sleeper Closer

Baseball Prospectus | On the Beat: Mid-Week Update: "The Orioles are at least considering giving Jim Johnson a share of the closer's job to start the season, as Mike Gonzalez has yet to reach 90 mph with his fastball this spring."

For $12MM over two years, Jim Johnson owners better hope Mike Gonzalez is hiding an injury. For those who haven't drafted yet, let's hope we know by draft time.

Are there any more details about this? I can't find any other articles corroborating this claim.

I heard nothing of the sort either; hence, I linked it.

Personally, Uehara is my pick but his hammy is healing slowly.

Perrotto was the beat writer for the Pirates so i suspect he got this sourced.

Thanks for the reply.

When you say "sourced" do you mean he got it from some source on the inside that others don't have access to?

Yeah I thought Uehara would be the pick but I haven't even heard that Gonzalez would be sharing saves.

Something like that. I assume he didn't just make it up esp given BP's status in the basbeall media.

Unsourced closer speculation is the purview of the blogs!
