Gagne Isn't Up to Speed
Is he the perfect example of recovery-enhancement drug use versus muscle-building drug use? HE is not a "cut" athlete.
Without the steroid cloud, one can infer the loss of velocity is due to concerns over his elbow or knee, both of which were hurt this Spring.

I think your inference is probably wrong. Gagne pitched all of 4 innings in spring training and then missed 7 weeks due to injury. He has only pitched 13 innings so far this year, which is still a little less then what he would have pitched in a full spring training. My guess is that his velocity will return as he builds arm strength and confidence over the next 7-10 innings of work. He's still 8 for 8 in save opps this year. Bob Wickman, who certainly is not "cut" has 17 saves - the fact that Gagne is not cut (and never was) is more an indication of no prior steroid use.
If you want to talk about a pitcher who has suffered as a result of no more steroids, I would look no further then Schmidt - no coincidence that he plays in SF with Barry.
Well, now we know the real reason that his velocity is down. Mr. Gagne, say hello to Mr. Tommy John - see that scar - soon you will have the same one.
That's a fantasy killer.
