Joe Torre

Goes to bat for his players. His defense of Giambi is admirable as Giambi deserves creidt for not perjuring himself or insinuating he'd quit on any team that acquired him.

But Torre needs to back-off. He has done his duty to his players.

Maybe the beatwriters need to think of some original questions?

More general Yankees coments - Cano might become a decent player, but how does a team with a $212 Million dollar payroll start a rookie at 2nd? They have no 1st basemen (Giambi?, Tino? - yuck and yuck). No Center Fielder - Williams is finished, Womack doesn't want to play there (and the Yanks don't even want him on their team) and the Yanks starting pitching is terrible. K. Brown is a mental case with back problems, Pavano is putting up his typical career numbers (he's a .500 pitcher who doesn't strike anyone out - he was actually dropped in my league), Randy is way too hit and miss lately - is it his knee, his back, or his age, Jaret Wright may have been one of the Yanks worst signings EVER, and Wang, while OK so far, is not battle tested as a rookie. If it weren't for Mussina, Gordon and Mariano, the team would be 5 games under .500.

In all my years playing fantasy, I have never been in a league where there were so many Yankee position players and pitchers available on waivers - Cano, Giambi, Tino, Bernie, Womack, K. Brown, Pavano, Wright and Wang (unless he's 2 starting). In past years, Yankee starters were scarcer then hen's teeth. Maybe us flb'ers know something the Yankees don't - this team is done.
